Same-Day Crowns

At Crestview Dental Group, we believe in not only continuing education, but the use of the latest in tools and technology. We have done just that with the CEREC station. CEREC is a design and milling station using CAD/CAM technology. This all encompassing dental tool uses specialized software providing us an in-office milling station to create your dental prosthetics. The benefit to our patients is that ability to create your dental crown, bridge, inlays, onlays, veneers and even partials right here in our office. You no longer need to wait for your appliance to be milled at a dental lab, we do the work on site.

At Crestview Dental Group, under the supervision of David Lai DDS, we can restore teeth in one appointment. CEREC allows us to create your prosthetic device quickly and with precision.

What is CEREC?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Some dentists also like to refer to it simply as CEramic REConstruction. Starting with a small block of ceramic material, we are able to first design a perfect restoration with the program software, and then the machine will mill the piece as you wait. CEREC is a great advancement, giving our patients fast, durable, long lasting restorations while they wait.

CEREC Restorations

Using CEREC technology, we can design and create your customized dental restoration while you wait. CEREC is known for creating dental crowns, but it can do so much more, we are able to create:

•  Dental Crowns
•  Dental Bridges
•  Inlays and Onlays
•  Veneers
•  Partial Dentures

David Lai DDS will review all of your material options with you, and help you determine which option is best for you. If you choose ceramic, we can complete your restoration that day. Having a CEREC milling machine in office allows us to create your customized restorations in about one hour, saving our patients time.

How does CEREC work?

The CEREC software begins with a 3D digital image of your entire oral cavity. This will help us create a restoration that fits your bite, and the peaks and valley’s of your tooth precisely. The CEREC software will determine the restoration’s appropriate shape, size, and chewing indentations. This system uses biogeneric comparisons which will evaluate your neighboring teeth, giving you a perfect fit. Once the computer has done its part, David Lai DDS will then take the time to review and make any small alterations that may be necessary.

Once the digital model is ready, the milling machine then carves your restoration from a small ceramic block using a diamond head cutter. It is controlled with a computerized system, meaning the cuts are precise. Before permanent placement, David Lai DDS will check the newly milled restoration for fit, we can make any necessary changes during this time. The new restoration is then cemented into place with a resin material.

Research has told us that CEREC milled restorations tend to last longer than gold or any other material restorations. Studies show that 95.5 percent of CEREC milled restoration are intact after nine years, and 84 percent after 18 years.
